Pan Y Circo

£145.00

Description

A drypoint print made using a face shield as a printing plate. A drypoint is made by etching into a metal or plastic substrate (printing plate) with a sharp tool or etching needle. For this piece I used a face shield, preferring to recycle the plastic rather than add more needless waste to landfill, or have it shipped off to be quietly burnt in a foreign country, as is often the case.

Once the design is finished, each print is made by wiping etching or intaglio ink all over the plate and then wiping off the excess where not required. This is the most time-consuming part and needs to be done for each new print, which is then put through an etching press. When dry, I added a little colour with a light watercolour wash.

Pan Y Circo is Spanish for “Bread and Circus.” I lived in Chile for 10 years and am fluent in Spanish, and I just like how it sounds! Plus it goes with the inspirational quote by the Latin poet, Juvenal, who is attributed as having said the following circa 100AD:

“Give them bread and give them circuses, and they (the people) shall never revolt.”

Small edition of only 10.

Paper size is 30.5 x 40.5 cms approx, or 12 x 16 inches.

Please note that  due to the handmade process, each print varies slightly in the tone of ink and the colours used.

Printed using AKUA Intaglio inks on BFK Rives printmaking paper, with added watercolour once dry.

Your print will be shipped rolled in a postal tube and sent tracked and signed for delivery.
