Collagraph print, using Akua Intaglio inks on BFK Rives printmaking paper.

Paper size is 38 x 46 cms or 15 x 18 inches.
Image is 30 x 38 cms or 12 x 15 inches.
Varied Edition of only 3, these are listed separately as they are all so different.

Making a collagraph print is a truly exciting process, for me anyway! The printing plate here is made from mountboard, which I have cut into and collaged on with fabric and other materials, so that the plate can be inked up as intaglio (into the recessed areas) or as a relief print (the raised areas).

The plate, as it is called, then gets two coats of shellac or button polish to seal it and left overnight before it can be printed. It has to be inked up for each new print. It is a time-consuming process, but because of the many inking up possibilities, many different looks can be created, so each print is truly a one-off piece of art. The nature of the plate usually means it deteriorates with use, depending of course on the materials used, so the edition run tends to be quite small. Each print is made on quality printmaking paper which has to be previously soaked in water and then blotted before printing.

Once dry, I have added some watercolour and coloured pencil.

They are numbered, titled and signed in pencil underneath the image, in the traditional manner.

This listing is for just the print, without mount or frame. It will be sent flatpacked. Tracked and signed for delivery.
